Apple Announced New “Self-Service Repair” Scheme

Apple has announced a new scheme called “self-service repair”. Through this service, customers can fix their own devices. This program can help those customers who want to replace batteries, screens, and cameras of recent iPhones.

The grassroots right-to-repair movement was creating pressure on Apple so that individuals and independent repair shops can be able to repair or fix electronics. Apple authority said, “Self Service Repair is intended for individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices.” The company also said, “By designing products for durability, longevity, and increased repairability, customers enjoy a long-lasting product that holds its value for years.”

This Self-Service Repair program will allow individual customers to be connected with more than 5,000 Apple authorized service providers. Chief operating officer of Apple Jeff Williams said, “Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice if a repair is needed.”

Experts have been criticizing Apple’s authorized repair schemes for a long time. Because this scheme was practicing extensive terms and restrictions which is creating difficulty to repair a broken phone. But new scheme may help Apple devices users to repair it easily. The Canadian computer hardware reviewers Hardware Canucks wrote on Twitter, “It may be a small step overall – but for Apple to do it, this is a massive win for the right-to-repair movement.”
