Google Is Giving Free Physical USB Security Keys

Google is giving free physical USB security keys to 10,000 high-risk users. These users are mainly politicians and human rights activists who are at high risk of being hacked.

This security key will provide these users with two-factor authentication. It can ensure an additional layer of security beyond a password. Google mentioned it as an “advanced protection program” which is specially designed for high-profile users.

The director of Google’s Threat Analysis Group, Shane Huntley said in a statement, “As we always do, we sent those people who were targeted by government-backed attackers warnings” Mr. Huntley also said that Google detected a campaign targeting about 14,000 Gmail users. A Russia-linked hacking group was running an email campaign to trick people into revealing their passwords.
