Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do in WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the few popular messaging apps used in many different countries like India, UK, Switzerland, Mexico, Russia, and many more in South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. In India alone, there are more than 340 million users. Because of its popularity, users are always looking for ways to improve their usage experience. Well, I’ve got great news for you. I’ve got here a couple of tricks that you probably did not know you could do in WhatsApp.

Listen to Voice Messages Without Earphones

Whether you’re in a public or private setting and can’t be bothered to stand up and grab earphones, there is a way for you to listen to voice messages quietly. What you do is press the play button and lift the phone to your ears, the way you would do were you to answer a call. When you do this, the message will play through the earpiece and not the speakers on your phone.

Hide Your Real Number

If you are based in the US or in Canada, you can download an app called TextNow that gives you a virtual phone number. All you need to do is download the app, create an account, and choose from the five free phone numbers given. With the chosen number, you can create a WhatsApp account. This is especially great for people who need to give out their number to the public but are too afraid to give out their personal number.

Know When Someone Has Blocked You

Based on personal experience, there are two ways to tell whether you’ve been blocked by someone on WhatsApp. The first and more obvious way is when the message you’ve sent only shows one check mark, instead of the standard two. The second and less obvious way is by looking at their profile picture. If it just so happens that they don’t have a profile photo anymore, that could be a sign, too.

Reading Messages Without Blue Ticks

If, for some reason, you don’t want people to know you’ve read their message, fear not! There is a way to do that. Just go to Settings, click on Account, and then click on Privacy. Scroll down a bit and you’ll see the option to turn off read receipts. While you’re at it, you also have the option to restrict who can see your Last Seen, Status, Profile Photo, and About. You can also control who can add you to group messages on WhatsApp.

Mass Delete Shared Data

In the year of our Lord 2021, friendship is based on the amount of media you share with each other. The catch is, over time, it will consume so much of your space so you will need to mass delete some of them. To do this, you need to go to Settings, click on Data and Storage Usage, then click on Storage Usage and there you’ll see a list of your contacts ranked according to how much data you’ve shared with them. From there, you can choose what to delete and what to keep.
