Make Podcasts Part of Your Marketing Strategy

Podcasts used to just be a thing for talkative and creative people. Well, that’s a thing of the past now because podcasts have turned into one of the most well-known content formats around, and this is no surprise. In here, we’ll talk about why podcasts are now a thing and why you should include it in your content marketing strategy.

A lot of media content made for consumption like videos and blogs require our attention. For podcasts, though, it doesn’t require much effort. You can listen to podcasts anywhere you like no matter what you’re doing. It’s something you can do while you work on another thing. I am an avid podcast listener myself and I mostly listen to podcasts when I do chores, which is probably what most podcast listeners do, too. This fact is the reason why podcasts increase engagement because listeners are willing to sit through an entire episode knowing they can do something else at the same time.

Podcasts have more engagement compared to other media content is because other media formats require you to focus and absorb information you’re reading or watching. Podcasts, on the other hand, are simple conversations by people and, while the topic can sometimes be a bit complex, the language used is simple and rarely dense. Plus, you can use podcasts as an inspiration to create more content. Take for example the Netflix show The Midnight Gospel. The audio in the show originally came from the Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast. The creators of the show took some conversation bits from the podcast, added animation, and voila! A Netflix show was born.

With that being said, content marketing doesn’t just revolve around blog posts anymore. You have to be willing to embrace the changes and shift to meet your audience’s wants. Podcasts build brand affinity, support passive consumption, and increase audience engagement by a whole lot. Lastly, podcasts are inexpensive to create. You just need a reliable microphone and a good recording software and you’re off. You can choose to invest in much more expensive equipment but, hey, there’s nothing wrong in taking baby steps. As long as you’re willing to put in the time and effort to create podcasts, you’re going to do great.
